How does an aerial roof measurement work?
Hail Pro requests the building's 3D roof model from Google's Solar API, which is derived from aerial imagery and elevation data. Hail Pro rejects a building that falls outside the selected parcel (so you never pay for the neighbor's roof or a shed), then reports the sloped roof area and pitch of each facet, traces the roof lines (eaves, rakes, ridges, hips, valleys and wall flashing) and draws them on a labelled plan diagram and a shaded 3D view.
How accurate are aerial roof measurements?
Aerial estimates are good for prioritizing and ballpark pricing. They are not a substitute for a field measurement before ordering materials, and they can miss changes made after the imagery date, detached structures, or heavily tree-covered roofs.
Frequently asked questions
Can I get an instant roof measurement from just an address?
Yes. Search the address in Hail Pro, open the property and run a roof sizing: the area, pitch and roof lines come back in seconds from aerial data, with no site visit. From there you can turn it into a priced estimate; see roofing estimates.
Is a roof measurement included in the subscription?
Roof sizing is available on Pro and Enterprise and costs 5 credits per property, refunded when no roof on that parcel is found. Pro refreshes 5 credits a month and Enterprise 100, and more credits can be purchased.
